BMC is looking for an Experienced Mainframe Computer Operator to join our amazing IZOT team.
The IZOT mainframe console operation team provides support to IBM zSeries mainframe hardware and software to ensure all mainframe L-pars and its subsystems are always up and active.
In this role, you will be responsible for environment monitoring and support critical IBM zSeries mainframe hardware and software. You will also be responsible to maintain the productivity of these systems and minimize disruptions to services. Providing 24X7 on call support for mainframe hardware device and software.
Here is how, through this exciting role, YOU will contribute to BMC's and your own success:
- Follow BMC procedures and documentation required for error-free execution of data center functions.
- Initialize systems, perform IPL (Initial Program Load) of z/OS and z/VM systems.
- Ensure all logs, check-off lists are completed and accurate to provide detailed information for continued operations and problem follow-up.
- Notify appropriate personnel for unsuccessful completion of jobs or tasks, based on error messages and/or documentation.
- Perform tape management functions according to procedure.
- Recognize and resolve critical operational problems.
- Report and document any observed deviations from standard performance to the Lead Operator on duty, or technical support staff immediately to ensure effective resolution.
- Function as a Level 1 technical support for mainframe users.
- Provide after-hours technical support by documenting and escalating calls appropriately.
- Able to remain calm, cordial, and effective during the resolution of time-critical system interruptions/difficulties/failures.
To ensure you’re set up for success, you will bring the following skillset & experience:
- 3+ years of experience in mainframe console operation.
- Proficiency in performing Zos & VM system IPL, system Health Check & Job monitoring.
- Experience in Incident management.
- Deep understanding of industry practices and common policies and procedures.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with ability to resolve a wide range of issues with a creative as well as practical approach.
- Great communication and interpersonal skills
- Team player with a collaborative attitude who loves sharing technical know-how.
- 24X7 on call support availability.
Whilst these are nice to have, our team can help you develop in the following skills:
- Exposure of RACF provisioning
- Experience working in a global software enterprise.
