UX research is imbedded in our UX process. It guides, inspires, and tests innovations, designs, and strategies with user data and insights.

What does a UX Researcher do at BMC?

  • Advocate for users and for the importance of user research and customer centricity in the design and development process
  • Independently lead and conduct research projects across products to generate actionable insights using a variety of methods (e.g., observations, contextual interviews, surveys, behavioral analysis, moderate/unmoderated usability testing, card sort, concept/feature testing, A/B testing, etc.)
  • Close collaboration and coordination with UX designers, product managers, architects, and developers
  • Identify research appropriate methods matching project needs, timelines, and given resources
  • Conduct exploratory research to identify unknown processes, gaps, and opportunities
  • Assist/guide UX designers in preparing, conducting and gathering insights/feedback on concepts and designs
  • Efficiently and effectively translate complex research data into meaningful and consumable insights
  • Effectively communicate and illustrate research findings to teams and stakeholders


  • MS degree in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Data Science, Cognitive Science, or related fields
  • 3-5 years applied research and industry experience 
  • Proficient working knowledge in HCI research methods, experimental design, and behavioral analysis

Skills, Abilities, and Qualities

  • Required methods: proficiency in qualitative and quantitative UX research methods including onsite/remote observations, contextual inquiry, card sorts, concept/feature testing, moderated/unmoderated usability testing.
  • Ability to process and analyze data across multiple types of sources (e.g., data analytics, survey, and observations)
  • Proficiency in using a variety of UX industry tools used for design, testing, analysis, and documentation/presentation, e.g., UserTesting.com, TryMy UI, Optimal Workshop, Qualtrics, MS Office, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, etc.
  • Fearless in applying UX research to unfamiliar and complex domains
  • Passionate, creative, open-minded, persistent and highly collaborative mindset
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
