DevOps Specialist

Position Summary:

We are currently seeking a Solution Consultant to provide pre and post-sales support for the BMC CPWR DevOps Solutions, that bring DevOps to the IBM Mainframe. The successful applicant will work with the BMC Sales Team in developing sales strategies to assist customers as they modernize the Mainframe. The successful applicant will also work with existing customers to ensure their existing BMC CPWR DevOps Solutions provide real value to their businesses.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting the sales team with pre-sales activity such as proposal preparation, product demonstrations and presentations, product installations and pilot projects for proof of concept.
  • Participate in pre and mid-evaluation reviews with Prospects and Sales Executives
  • Coordinating installations activity and providing support to customers during installation. Includes hands on user education, training and problem resolution
  • Provide Post-Sales Support and assistance to customers on an ongoing basis to ensure they receive value from the BMC Solutions.
  • Conducting customer education courses and seminars
  • Keeping management aware of potential areas for product, services and educational sales, being continually aware of new products and releases through regular updates with the Product Manager. Attending and presenting at User Groups and Trade Shows. Functioning as back-up for other product areas
  • Providing input into product direction.  
  • Marketing support for customer seminars, and User Group meetings

Required Skills/Competencies:

  • A mainframe applications development background with a minimum of 5+ years’ experience
  • A good technical understanding of the IBM Mainframe environment.
  • Ability to learn new solutions and products.
  • Ability to explain the business value that DevOps Solutions on the Mainframe bring to Mainframe Development teams.  
  • Knowledge of CI/CD tools such as Jenkins/ CodeFresh / Bamboo/gitlab etc.
  • Understanding of a Git based repository such as GitHib / BitBucket
  • A language such as Jenkins script/Mavin/Python/Groovy etc.
  • Sound working knowledge of Mainframe programming languages such as: Cobol and PL1
  • Experience in development and operation of both CICS/IMS and batch concepts including JCL
  • Knowledge in ISPF functions (panel, skeleton, clist, REXX).
  • Knowledge of Z/OS, DB2, Websphere MQ
  • Experience with workload automation
  • Ability to apply a broad range of consulting methodologies to complex customer situations
  • Requires a blend of technical, business, consultative and support skills
  • Ability to build relationships with customers.

Optional Skills

  • uDeploy / Sonarsource / Artifcatory / Argo / Xebia labs
  • Experience in mainframe software product installation and upgrades.  
  • Knowledge of SMP/E installation.
  • Previous Pre-Sales and Post Sales experience
