DevX Specialist (BMC-Compuware Solutions)

In today’s world of digital transformation, which has experienced exponential growth in recent years, business systems are dependent on realizing the most efficiency from their zOS system while keeping pace with the speed of new function release required by their customers. BMC works with the largest customers globally to help champion them on their journey to modernizing the delivery of a more automated and higher velocity system while meeting the needs of the modern developer for intuitive tooling.   

The person who applies for this role should be passionate about the stewardship of the mainframe and desire to modernize the experience of the platform during application development. They should be motivated by the need to fully understand customer’s challenges on their modernization journey and aim to solve these challenges through the application of modern tooling and best practice blended with their own zOS knowledge and experience.  

The person will be joining a team of open-minded innovators who are passionate about their work and confident to realize their ideas, be an evangelist and work alongside their internal customers (the product account managers) and have a desire to work in collaboration with their external customers, the largest zOS customers in EMEA. They will be on a progressive team of technical specialists who wish to grow the business through assisting their customers with solving problems using technology.

This role also involves working with other internal divisions, for example product management, to input ideas and assist is assessment of the PM backlog at key points throughout the year. We pride ourselves on working in close collaboration with our various customers where everyone is respected for their contribution. We also work on many internal small projects to continually improve the experience of working with BMC in a collaborative and matrixed manner across divisions.

We are currently seeking a Solution Engineer to provide customer support for the BMC CPWR DevOps Solutions, that bring DevOps to the IBM Mainframe.

Responsibilities include:

  • Contribute to the EMEA specialist solution engineering team as an expert in the BMC-Compuware DevX solutions.
  • Understanding industry IT drivers & customer IT goals/objectives
  • Consult with the customer on how the solutions could satisfy above criteria, perhaps even involving cross solution positioning to satisfy customer use cases
  • Facilitate modelling of value from adopting solutions – working with value specialist where assigned
  • Assisting the sales team to position the solutions, qualify the sales opportunities and more globally helping the sales team on the opportunity’s milestone with technical advice
  • Coordinate and run POC's, Technical Validations, and Demos of BMC DevOps Mainframe solutions including completing request for information (RFI)
  • Align support activity and escalations with a focus on POC success & Customer Adoption
  • Position BMC Compuware solutions against competing tools used in accounts to position replacement programs that will enable expansion of the BMC footprint
  • Participate in pre and mid-evaluation reviews with Prospects and Sales Executives
  • Coordinating installations activity and providing support to customers during installation where required, predominately BMC services and support would typically be engaged
  • Provide Post-Sales contact and assistance to customers to ensure they receive value from the BMC Solutions where a Technical Account Manager or Customer Success Manager is not assigned
  • Keeping management aware of potential areas for product, services and educational sales, being continually aware of new products and releases through regular updates with the Product Manager.
  • Attending and presenting at User Groups and Trade Shows. Functioning as back-up for other product areas
  • Support defined marketing events and generate ideas for events, such as seminars and User Group meetings and evangelist to increase awareness and growth in area such:  blogs, e-books, Webinars, Virtual Customer Connections events and social media.

Required Skills/Competencies:

  • A mainframe applications development background with a minimum of 5+ years’ experience
  • A good technical understanding of the IBM Mainframe environment.
  • Good knowledge/experience with classic mainframe development solutions in the following areas: source code management (ISPW), file and data management (File-Aid), fault analysis (Abend-Aid), interactive debugger (Xpediter), virtualized and non-virtualized test automation (Topaz for Total Test), application performance management (Strobe). And/or experience with equivalent solutions on the market (Broadcom CA, IBM, Macro4, Microfocus etc ...).
  • Knowledge of CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, Azure and IDE (Topaz, Eclipse, IDz, VS Code etc …)
  • Intrinsic motivation for self-development about solutions and products
  • Highly consultative in approach showing understanding and empathy to customers’ needs
  • Ability to leverage knowledge of the business value of zOS DevOps Solutions to increase quality, velocity and efficiency of application development   
  • Understanding of a Git based repository such as GitHub / Bitbucket
  • Experience in development and operation of both CICS/IMS and batch concepts including JCL
  • Knowledge of Z/OS & DB2
  • Ability to apply a broad range of consulting methodologies to complex customer situations
  • Ability to build trusted advisor relationships with customers.

  • Be responsible for driving business growth from technical sphere, eg: integrations, positioning to market demands etc.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communicator from written to conference presentation, ability to story tell

  • Consistently acts in a manner that promotes an open, honest and respectful workplace
  • Self-motivated to succeed without micromanagement and uses initiative

Optional Skills

  • Experience with Broadcom CA solutions / Micro Focus
  • Experience with Mainframe Storage Management Solutions (Innovation Data Processing)
  • Experience with zOS system performance optimization and application performance optimization
  • Experience in mainframe software product installation and upgrades
  • Knowledge of SMP/E installation
  • Previous Pre-Sales experience
