Job Description:
Customer-focused mainframe Staff Specialist Product Developer. This person is responsible for maintaining and developing several internal applications. The candidate is expected to provide technical help/expertise to team members who are diagnosing, troubleshooting, and debugging complex systems and/or software. Analytical thinking and problem solving are the top skills required for success in this position. Coding skills using CLIST, TSO, ISPF, REXX, & C skills are required. Must be able to work with JCL and IBM utilities to perform maintenance tasks. Familiarity with BMC software products, especially from an installation and customization perspective is a plus. Expert SMP/E knowledge & Assembler coding is desired.
Role Profile:
- Primary responsibility for the operation and maintenance of the BMC internal processes that deliver SMP/E software to BMC’s z/OS customers.
- Provides technical support for product teams using the internally developed maintenance delivery tools.
- Perform problem analysis and work with product teams to resolve problems on all supported systems.
- Work with product teams to define new releases as needed.
- Participate in code reviews of peer work and coordinate code changes with other developers.
- Experience developing in an Agile environment required.
- Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing basic issues. Error message resolution and problem analysis for abends required.
- Need good diagnostic skills including dump reading and analyzing trace output.
- Provide internal product teams and BMC customer assistance in resolving SMP/E problems as needed.
- Use creativity to employ automation and innovative solutions.
- Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills, a demonstrated ability to work issues to resolution.
- Support BMC disaster recovery/business continuity programs as directed.
- Validate, document, and escalate design, reliability and maintenance problems or bugs.
Desired Skills/qualifications:
- Proficiency with Rexx/Clist, TSO/ISPF is required.
- Proficiency with C, C++, & Assembler is highly desirable.
- Research latest technologies
- Proficiency with software installation, configuration, and maintenance processes.
- Familiarity with TCP/IP, CICS, DB2, MQ, IMS. JES2/JES3, USS and file transfer products experience a plus.
- Knowledge of and proficiency with IBM products and utilities; prefer strong experience with BMC products.
- Ability to remain calm, cordial, and effective during the resolution of time critical system interruptions/difficulties/failures.
- Proven ability to develop relationships with peers and product teams.
- Be proactive and take initiative to work independently as well as a member of a team.
Good to know:
· z/USS – or linux, understanding security in this environment would be very good.
· Knowledge on using REST API calls.

This position requires 5+ years of experience designing and coding mainframe applications and system exits in an IBM z/OS environment. Strong experience in SMP/E, JCL, VSAM, JES2/3, SDSF, ISPF, z/FS. Strong Diagnostics, Debugging and Troubleshooting skills. Experience in z/OS Internals and Operations is beneficial. Verbal and written communication skills needed for success.
