As  a design system manager, you will define the Design system strategy, tools, and methodology for the product design teams. You'll work alongside a team also composed of experienced PMs, researchers, and tech engineers. 

As the leader of the team, you have a unique opportunity to look at the current system, process, and vision to define the future of what the design system can be. 

Be our design system leader: Advocate Design systems to cross-functional teams. Develop standardized Design system metrics. Support accessibility and inclusion of our assets

Partner with multiple key stakeholders: collaborate with a diverse Product team to build a Design system strategy that will make us build a great product fast.

Participate in shaping BMC’s Design culture: Influence the way we do things day by day from your designer vision and create processes and best practices for the entire company that helps us turn progressively into a Design organization.

Manage and mentor the current UI team: You are a thoughtful team leader, manager, systems-level design thinker, and visionary - with strong instincts and outstanding intuition informed by user needs and insights. You'll be responsible for guiding the careers of your team members, working closely with each of them to help them realize their full potential.

Responsibilities:
  • Drive the vision, product management, and/or project management of a design system of visual style, and UI components for ADAPT.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and mentorship for a team of UX Designers; lead creative and holistic thinking across diverse product releases, platforms, and devices.
  • Lead the visual and technical direction of the experience design, visual style, and technical tooling, with input from director-level peers of product design and development teams.
  • Build strong relationships and operating rhythms with leaders inside and outside their core product team to efficiently implement user experiences that are cohesive, inclusive, and well-informed.
  • Foster a healthy design culture and principles within the group, while setting new standards in executional and operational excellence.
  • Consult with partners across the design and engineering to prioritize the teams’ efforts.
  • Advocate for resources to ensure your team can achieve their goals.
  • Contribute to and help construct and implement a mission for the design system
  • Create programs to educate designers and front-end engineers on the usage of tools to help them implement components of the design system.
  • You are a thoughtful team leader, manager, systems-level design thinker, and visionary - with strong instincts and outstanding intuition informed by user needs and insights. You'll be responsible for guiding the careers of your team members, working closely with each of them to help them realize their full potential.
  • Partner with leadership and PMs to define the Design System’s short and long-term strategy and roadmap by aligning it to the goals of the organization.

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in designing digital products and design systems
  • 2+ years of management experience.
  • Proven history of Figma expertise, including strong prior experience implementing (using, contributing to, and/or managing) a design system for digital products in a complex product ecosystem.
  • Advanced and up-to-date knowledge of Figma and its components functionality and a working knowledge of other contemporary design and prototyping tools.
  • Systems thinker who enjoys finding creative solutions to organizational, architectural, and design challenges.
  • Portfolio demonstrating understanding of visual harmony, information hierarchy, and best practices around design patterns.
  • Highly developed time-management, prioritization, and organizational skills.
  • Experience working with front-end engineering teams and foundational knowledge of front-end development.
  • Comprehensive understanding of constraints and guidelines as they apply to design for digital platforms, including web, iOS, and Android.
  • Awareness of accessibility best practices and interest in advocacy for accessibility for all users within HDS.
  • Experience contributing to documentation and education around design systems.
