BMC is a KKR-backed Enterprise software company seeking a high-caliber corporate technology strategist to join our CTO Ideation team. This role will report to the Vice President – Technology Strategy & Advocacy, and works closely with other parts of the CTO organization and across the company to analyze market and technology spaces to inform BMC’s long-term strategy, to create and vet ideas for innovation, and to educate and influence senior stakeholders on market trends, dynamics and opportunities. This role requires broad technology knowledge and solid business and market analysis skills.

The Ideation team is the “think tank” for BMC’s CTO Office is focused on the following areas: 
  • Corporate Technology Strategy
  • Market and technology landscapes
  • Customer problem assessment
  • Innovation idea generation
  • Corporate Development (i.e., M&A, partnerships) support
  • Business impact assessment
About the role

As a member of the Ideate Team, the successful candidate will: 
  • Collaborate in a dynamic matrixed organization
  • Research and create “big picture” views of market spaces
  • Scan the market, identify companies, and create taxonomies of the market ecosystem
  • Provide competitive analysis to understand the state-of-the-art technology and approaches customers are currently using to solve problems
  • Manage idea campaigns and generate ideas for potential innovation initiatives
  • Evaluate business opportunities based on BMC capabilities and assets coupled with market opportunity
  • Communicate, educate and influence a wide range of stakeholders in clear, concise and compelling language and visuals – excellent oral and written communication skills to deliver  both technical and non-technical information across various business functions

About the ideal candidate: 

The ideal candidate is analytic, data-driven, and research-oriented. They must be comfortable working with both senior business executives, product technology leads and customers. It is crucial that the candidate be able to see the forest beyond the trees. Generating new insights, ideas and approaches is a critical element, so creativity is a must. Broad technology understanding as well as business acumen is required to successfully identify opportunities.

  • 10+ years’ experience in corporate strategy, technology industry analysis, technology industry strategic consulting, or a combination of technology background with a transition to business functions
  • Broad experience in the enterprise software industry
  • Exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Executive level presentation skills
  • BA/BS degree in science, engineering, or similar discipline is required
  • Graduate degree, background in software development, enterprise product management or technology start-up experience are desirable
