Mainframe Security Senior Consultant - USA

BMC Mainframe Services (BMS) has an exciting opportunity to grow our team in the US with the opening for a Senior Mainframe Security Consultant.  We are forecasting BMS to be the largest Services unit within BMC and are looking for the right people to help develop and grow our US-based practice.

The BMC Senior Mainframe Security Consultant provides leadership on technical delivery engagements by implementing and delivering mainframe security projects.  A Senior Consultant works closely with the Practice Lead (PL) and Project Management (PM) team to meet the approved Customer requirements.  The Senior Consultant performs the technical hands to keyboard software, configuration changes, and assessment of customer systems.

The ideal candidate will be located anywhere in the mainland USA and must be available to travel when necessary.

Primary Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Works interactively with all project staff, both BMC internal and Customer.
  • Performs complex analysis of customer mainframe security environments based upon the SOW and delivery deadlines.
  • Participates in penetration testing of mainframe systems
  • Performs the mainframe security assessments of customer mainframe systems
  • Writes mainframe security documentation resulting from customer engagements
  • Contributes to mainframe external security manager (ESM) migrations to support all Functional requirements, Technical Solution Design, Test Strategy, and Deployment Plans
  • Advises on updates to the Project or Service Schedule to the PM, PL, SA or SDM
  • Recognizes if a customer request falls outside the scope of the project SOW and brings it to the attention of the PM and PL for further review.
  • Recognizes and escalates any identified opportunities to the PM and PL
  • Successfully moves the Customer into production on the target BMC solution and completes the full transition of the project to closure with both the customer and BMC teams.

Mandatory experience:

  • 7+ relevant years of mainframe security technical experience as a security administrator or consultant
  • 3+ years working in services or projects, preferably customer-facing in a professional consultative capacity
  • Expert experience in RACF administration, implementation, and management
  • Deep knowledge of mainframe security and protection mechanisms achieved through mainframe configuration
  • Consultative skills with customers, contractors when driving deliverables and setting priorities are a huge plus
  • A self-starter, willing to work without a net with a proven ability to meet assigned timelines with high quality, complete deliverables in unsupervised, often remote, situations.
  • Willingness to mentor and share ideas and knowledge with other colleagues promoting best practices.
  • Demonstrated success in building key relationships in the past with Sales, Technical Support, Application Teams, and Product Engineering.

Desirable experience:

  • Knowledgeable with RACF, ACF2, or TopSecret ESM products
  • Knowledge of zSecure or Vanguard software would be an advantage
  • REXX, SAS, Carla, or assembler programming
  • Knowledge of APF, TCP/IP, privilege escalation methods, mainframe penetration testing, and methods
  • Experience in working with compliance regulations such as Sarbanes Oxley or PCI-DSS
