BMC is seeking a high-calibre corporate technology strategist to join our OCTO (Office of the CTO) Technology Strategy team. This role will report to the Head of Technology Strategy for BMC and will work closely with other parts of the OCTO organization and across the company to analyse market and technology spaces, create and vet ideas for innovation, and educate and influence senior stakeholders. This role requires broad technology knowledge and solid business and market analysis skills.

Our Technology Strategy team is focused on researching and analyzing the most complex and challenging problems to create a clear perspective for these complex topics.
This team is small but very high impact with the responsibility of communicating these perspectives in a crisp manner for the highest levels of the company.
Our team focuses on first principles of problem solving to develop the best insights to inform and educate our decision makers.

Here is how, through this exciting role, YOU will contribute to BMC Software’s and your own success:

Collaborate in a dynamic matrixed organization
Research and create “big picture” views of market spaces
Scan the market, identify companies, and create taxonomies of the market ecosystem
Provide competitive analysis to understand the state-of-the-art technology and approaches customers are currently using to solve problems
Generate ideas for potential innovation initiatives
Seed experiments for early-stage prototyping with product development resources across business units and OCTO
Evaluate business opportunities based on BMC capabilities and assets coupled with market opportunity
Communicate, educate and influence a wide range of stakeholders in clear, concise and compelling language and visuals – excellent oral and written communication skills to deliver both technical and non-technical information across various business functions

To ensure you’re set up for success, you will bring the following skillset & experience:

The ideal candidate is analytic, data-driven, and research-oriented and comfortable with ambiguity.
They must be comfortable working with both senior business executives, product technology leads and customers.
It is crucial that the candidate be able to see the forest beyond the trees. Generating new insights, ideas and approaches is a critical element, so creativity is a must.
Broad technology understanding as well as business acumen is required to successfully identify opportunities.
7-10+ years’ experience in corporate strategy, technology industry analysis, technology industry strategic consulting, or a combination of technology background with a transition to business functions
Exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Executive level presentation skills
BA/BS degree in science, engineering, or similar discipline is required

The nice to have experience

Experience in Data management, Data Science, AI/ML or Generative AI
Top tier management consulting experience, background in software development, enterprise product management or technology start-up experience.

The annual base salary range represents the low and high end of the BMC salary range for this position. Actual salaries depend on a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training, licensure, and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.

The range listed is just one component of BMC's employee compensation package. Other rewards may include a variable plan and country specific benefits.

At BMC, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at /near the top of the range. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $189,375 - $315,625
