BMC Software is looking to fill the full-time position of a Sr Data Scientist.

The Sr Data Scientist, which is an emerging role in BMC Software’s investment into a modern data environment, will play a pivotal role in operationalizing the most-urgent data initiatives for BMC Software’s digital business initiatives. Responsible for setting strategy to ensure that data is a critical enterprise asset and shifting left the data mindset through the implementation of the data centric architecture. You'll establish quality throughout our data assets with Data Governance office and architecture community, as well as design data models that represent complex repositories aligned to data requirements, design, analysis, and metadata management. You'll also partner with IT and the business-on-business case development, documenting processes, and data impact requirements. You'll consult on the planning, design and implementation of on-premises and cloud-based data solutions utilizing architecture patterns.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead the data architecture and related technical strategies in the areas of data management, data catalog, data quality and data literacy.
  • Passionate about designing, maintaining, and documenting data models (conceptual/physical) based on functional areas enabling effective and timely enterprise analytics.
  • Build data strategy to enable both short-term and long-term needs for an extensible, trustworthy, and modern data architecture capable of evolving with changing needs.
  • Work closely with data engineering and platform leaders to define best practices
  • Lead initiatives like implementing data quality framework, data catalog, data governance and improving engineering productivity.
  • Own and maintain data model and architecture supporting enterprise analytics.
  • Uses extensive technical expertise to build case for change in technology architecture strategy
  • Help development teams to apply best Information management practices
  • Apply best practices using innovative ideas to increase awareness, efficiency, and value delivery of data architecture
  • Drive Automation through effective metadata management. The data engineer will be responsible for using innovative and modern tools, techniques and architectures to partially or completely automate the most-common, repeatable and tedious data preparation and integration tasks. 
  • Become a data and analytics evangelist


  • A bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, data management, information systems, information science or a related quantitative field is required. 
  • The ideal candidate will have a combination of IT skills, data governance skills, and analytics skills
  • At least [six] years or more of work experience in data management disciplines including data architecture, data integration, modeling, optimization, and data quality, and/or other areas directly relevant to data engineering responsibilities and tasks. 
  • Strong technical skills in data warehousing, SQL, data modeling and working with large scale data warehouses preferably AWS cloud-based solutions like AWS S3, Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, etc.
  • Experience in defining data security standards
  • Experience with Agile methodologies
  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking abilities
  • Excellent communication skills - both verbal and written with an ability to present the essence of complex business and technical issues to a wide range of audiences--both technical as well as executive.
