As part of the Information Services & Technology (IS&T) organization, the Enterprise Business Intelligence team enables an information-rich culture for all 6,000+ BMC employees, from executive dashboard users to content owners to departmental data scientists. 

We do this with a modern business intelligence ecosystem that combines the best of a centralized enterprise data warehouse and technologies with departmental data and self-service development. We are aided by industry-leading technologies, including MicroStrategy, Informatica, Snowflake, Alteryx, and Data Robot. 

The BI team is comprised of 20+ experts (and growing) in BI application engineering, data engineering, enablement, data science, and data testing. We do the hard work of data integration, schema development, and application architecture, so that business users can spend more time deriving insights from their data. 

Primary Roles and Responsibilities:
As an integral member of the Business Intelligence team, the Senior BI Business Analyst ensures that the BI team is delivering the right solutions to business problems, and that business users realize the most possible value from these solutions. A consultative partner rather than an order-taker, the BI Enablement team bridges the gap between technical developers and business subject-matter experts. This requires not only fluency in both technical jargon and business lingo, but also a thorough understanding of how mounds of data become specific business insights. 
The Senior BI Business Analyst is considered by IT colleagues and business partners to be a go-to expert in analysis, data discovery, data visualization, dashboard design, requirements elicitation/requirements gathering, and data-driven application design. They are also a savvy communicator, capable of confidently delivering – and empathetically receiving – the right messages in multiple vocabularies, from technical to functional; multiple formats including written, verbal, and visual; and with people at multiple organizational levels, from individuals to VPs.

The Senior BI Business Analyst is responsible for a wide array of activities, including: 
Represent the product owner in the design, development, implementation and support of mission-critical enterprise BI reports and analytical solutions. Guide BI application developers and data engineers on the translation of business requirements into technical specifications and development of data sources, reports, and dashboards.
Elicit requirements from business SMEs, and decompose them into documented agile user stories. This may include guiding business users in best practices, recommending options they did not know to ask for, and asking follow-up questions to understand the underlying business problem. 
Conduct lineage analysis to identify potential downstream impacts from projects and source system changes. 
Provide guidance and consultation to the production support team on complex support tickets when added subject area expertise is needed. 
Develop wireframes, prototypes, and working analytical solutions using designated BI development tools, potentially leveraging multiple reports and data sources.
Serve as BI SME and primary point of contact to the business for an assigned set of subject areas. Work with business stakeholders to prioritize backlog items, and advocate on behalf of the business to ensure that high priority user stories are estimated, groomed, and delivered within the timelines committed. 
Actively engage in agile ceremonies and processes, including scrum meetings, sprint planning, release planning, and backlog refinement. 
Facilitate user acceptance testing (UAT) of IT-developed solutions in both maintenance and project settings. Guide business users on data validation techniques. Work with the BI development team to triage issues that arise. 
Provide training and consultation to business users for self-service creation of ad-hoc reports, dashboards, mobile applications, and analytical solutions. 
Actively participate in the planning and execution of BI Enablement team goals, typically involving the design and implementation of technology best practices, innovations, user experience improvements, and process refinement.
Develop a personal training plan to continuously sharpen technical and functional skills; at least 80 hours of training annually. 

7+ years of experience in Business analysis & data analysis
3+ years of experience in building reports, dashboards, data visualization, and self-service analytics
Strong knowledge and experience using schema-based analytical platforms like MicroStrategy, Business Objects, Cognos (MicroStrategy is preferred)
Strong knowledge and experience using data visualization tools like MicroStrategy, QlikView, Tableau, Domo, PowerBI (MicroStrategy is preferred) 
Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques used in analytical solution design and development
Ability to write SQL statements of moderate complexity
Understanding of data preparation and integration concepts; experience with related products such as Alteryx, Informatica, SSIS, or Pentaho are a plus
Detailed knowledge of data warehouse architectures and dimensional modelling is preferred
Understanding of agile development frameworks (SAFe certified a plus)
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or similar Analytical discipline; or, equivalent work experience
