The BMC Innovation Labs brings together customers, partners, and employees to accelerate the development of new and relevant solutions that create value. Think of a start up type environment with the backing of a $2BN enterprise firm working on incubation style projects!

In this team you will help to foster innovation by creating spaces for experimentation, advance ideas that generate disruptive technologies and accelerating prototyping and development of new capabilities.

To date, the team have worked on some fascinating projects including the following domains: Edge / IoT, Augmented Reality and AIOps. 

Position Description:

Right now we are looking for a Principal Software Engineer to join our Innovation Labs team. 
In this role, you will ultimately be a incubation/ technical lead. You will be the person who will help research the solution we are building, do the design and architecture work and then work with a small team of 4-6 people to ultimately help build it out. 

In short, you will be responsible for helping to choose the technology stack (we like the ‘right tool for the right job’ mentality), leading and mentoring a team and most importantly innovating! 
Fundamentally, you will be a self starter and you will have been that innovative type, the person who was always nagging their boss about what else they could do. This is important as we need leaders to help us on our Innovation journey. 

About the ideal candidate

The right candidate will have come from a software engineering background and will have been hands on with a few of the following languages: Java, Golang, Node.js, Python, Scala. We do need someone that has led projects and really helped to drive them from scratch all the way through to delivery. 
Importantly, we don’t need you to know everything. If you feel you have a good foundation and are willing and open to learning new skills – we will provide you that platform.


Must haves:
  • 10+ years working with at least two of the following languages: Java / Golang / Node.js / Python / Scala / Rust (not at the same time). 
  • Proven history of delivering world class software. 
  • Demonstrable experience building microservice architecture.
  • Strong experience with relational and nonrelational databases.
  • Experience building SaaS / Cloud based applications with AWS, Azure or Google Cloud / GCP. 
  • A desire to lead projects / teams and inspire passion in others! 

Nice to haves:
  • CI/CD knowledge
  • Understanding of Kafka message queue and integration technologies
  • Working knowledge of using containers like Docker, orchestration technologies like Kubernetes, and Kubernetes package managers like Helm.
  • Experience having worked in a start up type team.

  • The 1st stage will be an informal chat with the recruiter, it will last around 30 minutes or so and go through what you are looking for, what the role is, what the team does etc. It’s your chance to find our more about us.
  • The 2nd stage will be a technical stage with one of our Architects / Leads, this will last around 45 minutes or so and will be conversational (no whiteboards / coding exercises).
  • The final stages will be with our VPs and will touch more on motivations / your innovation mindset as well as giving you the last bit of details about the upcoming projects / answering any other questions that you might have
