The BMC DSOM (Digital Services and Operations Management) IDD (Information Design and Development) team is a global team of 50+ writers well supported by Information Architects, Specialists, and Editors. Our team creates technical documentation in the form of online documentation, videos, in-app walkthroughs, and graphics for the users of BMC products. We typically serve a technical audience from the IT departments of large enterprise customers. Primary Roles and Responsibilities: 
  • You are going to analyze the use cases, personas, and information needs of the target audience to determine the right delivery medium (Online documentation, video, in-app walkthroughs, graphics, etc) and the structure of the content.
  •  You will develop high-quality, findable, and accessible technical content. Work with writers and engineers to scope, design, edit, and publish technical content as directed by the supervising writers. 
  •  You will go under direction from IDD management and lead information developers, take ownership of the documentation for a product or product area.
  • Work with reviewers and editors to ensure that content is technically accurate, appropriate for the intended audience, and consistent with BMC product documentation standards.
  • Make recommendations to improve technical information based on the needs of the target audience. Make recommendations to improve the content model, style, and structural elements of BMC documentation. 
  • Initiate and recommend creative and innovative new ways to improve technical information deliverables and processes. 
  • Understand customer issues and documentation usage through metrics, comments on documentation, and other customer feedback channels. Respond to customer comments and feedback on the assigned documentation within SLAs. 
  • Balance work volume and quality, and appropriately escalate potential risks and issues to management.

Qualification:
  • 6+ years of experience in creating technical documentation for enterprise software users, system administrators, and other technical audiences in a software product development organization
  • Ability to quickly understand complex concepts present them in a simple, clear, and concise manner 
  • Proficient with any of the industry-standard authoring tools and video editing tools
  • Excellent analytical, English, technical writing, visualization, collaboration, and follow-up skills
  • A strong understanding of the documentation development processes and quality measures.
  • Exposure to agile development practices, tools, and terminology
  • Ability to handle multiple work tracks simultaneously and stay focused in a fast-paced and ambiguous environment
  • Ability to swiftly unlearn old practices, adapt to change, and zeal for continuous learning

Desired (Nice-To-Have) Skills:
  • Experience in creating developer documentation such as API documentation
  • Exposure to Confluence wiki as an authoring tool
  • Exposure to IT service and operations management basics
  • Software development experience or training
