BMC is looking for a Product Manager to join our amazing team! 

 The IZOT product line includes BMC’s Intelligent Z Optimization & Transformation products, which help the world’s largest companies to monitor and manage their mainframe systems. The modernization of mainframe is the beating heart of our product line, and we achieve this goal by developing products that improve the developer experience, the mainframe integration, the speed of application development, the quality of the code and the applications’ security, while reducing operational costs and risks. We acquired several companies along the way, and we continue to grow, innovate, and perfect our solutions on an ongoing basis. 

 In this role, you will participate in defining the future vision for the product line. You will analyze business opportunities, specify, and prioritize customer requirements. You will direct product development teams, define pricing, and support successful commercial outcomes throughout the product lifecycle. As product manager, you will be or become an expert on the product, market, and related business domains. 


Here is how, through this exciting role, YOU will contribute to BMC's and your own success:  

The R&D Mainframe manager reports to the Director of Common Services and works with Dev Managers and Technical Services managers. The role includes managing all daily activities of a team of Release Engineering which is responsible for maintenance of the BMC internal processes that deliver SMP/E software to BMC’s z/OS customers and provides support for product teams using the internally developed maintenance delivery tools. Areas covered by release engineering team includes monitoring, tracking, reporting, and problem resolution for mainframe systems, security, and customer facing product & maintenance delivery. 


To ensure you’re set up for success, you will bring the following skillset & experience: 

Team leadership

  • Manage internal operations projects and note that they may require cross-department resources and coordination.
  • Manage the team’s use of ticketing systems to ensure timely completion of incidents and service requests.
  •  Lead meetings as assigned or required; collaborate on change control requests.
  • Hire, train, and develop an operations team.
  • Engage in interviewing, hiring, and training employees.
  • planning, assigning, and directing work.
  • appraising performance, rewarding, coaching, and disciplining employees
  • addressing complaints and resolving problems
  • Present new concepts, methodologies, and technologies to team members.
  • Orient project team members to processes, procedures, and tools.
  • Effectively communicate key technical concepts, verbally and in writing, to team members.
  • Evaluate tools and new technologies for developing and delivering content.
  • Perform administrative duties, including time sheet approval.
  • Manage departmental operating budget to agreed targets as directed by senior management.
  • Participate in meetings to learn about products and features. Lead group interviews with subject matter experts. Gain an understanding of BMC products and cross-product integrations through guided training and individual study.
  • Interact with internal and external customers.
  • Lead customer feedback calls and review field reports.
  • Ensure work produced by team members meets departmental policies, procedures, and standards.

Project leadership

  • Take a conceptual approach to projects and set the direction.
  • Set priorities for projects.
  • Demonstrate effective use of project resources and project planning tools to estimate task duration, define the scope of assignments, prioritize conflicting deadlines, and provide project and risk assessment.
  • Effectively and consistently communicate team status and risk mitigation plans to associate managers, peer managers, and cross functional leadership.
  • Partner with Common Services experts on special projects as needed.
  • Participate in other projects as assigned by management.
  • Individual contributor talent development
  • Mentor team members with a focus on improving skills and career development. Provide objectives to all team members.
  • Help staff to focus on the right activities and deliverables that support the team objectives while helping to advance career objectives.
  • Build relationships and work with groups throughout IZOT to gain an understanding of various IZOT role profiles, requirements, and opportunities. Create individual development plans for opportunities throughout the IZOT organization.
  • Address training and career development needs of individuals and teams.
  • Formally evaluate performance and conduct performance reviews of all direct reports.
  • Recommend and approve staff member rewards and recognition.

• Minimum 5 years mainframe systems knowledge.
• BMC IZOT product awareness, with AMI OPS knowledge being highly desirable.
• Ability to mentor team members on new and emerging technologies.
• Ability to address difficult issues, make tough decisions, and communicate constructive feedback.
• Strong ability to acquire, synthesize, and present technical information using a variety of effective presentation skills.
• Ability to become proficient with the products your team works with.
• Excellent (written and verbal) communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to effectively present ideas in a variety of presentation media.
• Willingness to accept responsibility and accountability.
• Proficiency with MS Office Suite: Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Word
• Familiarity with JIRA and Confluence desirable
• At minimum, a 3-year, or bachelor’s degree in a technical field (Engineering, Mathematics, or Computer Science)
• Managerial and business class completion is desirable.
