Description and Requirements

We are seeking an information architect who will focus on creating and delivering modernized, more intuitive, and simplified content experiences with the right balance of rich media and wiki topics. You will advocate for both customers and content developers by refining and designing content models and reuse architecture while driving automation through metadata management. You will use industry-leading tools, methodologies, and architectures to help automate common, repeatable content-management tasks to minimize manual effort and drive efficiency. 

You must have extensive experience in applying information architecture and technical writing principles and best practices and a proven ability to lead conversations with stakeholders and partners to drive agreement on solutions.

Work closely with technical writing teams, managers, editors, information architects, and stakeholders to provide a positive user experience by planning and designing the content structure within and across product- and solution-level content sets and in-app help systems. 
Support multiple products and content development teams.
Work with product managers, designers, and others to create information architectures, including but not limited to terminology, taxonomy, navigational structure, and task flows.
Enable effective information discovery for best-in-class search experiences and navigation.
Develop task and process flows for consistent end-to-end experiences within products 
and across product verticals.
Influence information strategy by partnering with business leaders to provide strategic, information-based recommendations to prevent customer confusion and disruptions while also embracing innovation and increasing value.
Interpret and present analytics and actionable insights.

Core Job Functions :

Content structure and usability:

Review information experience plans to understand the audience and purpose of information needed for each release. Make recommendations for presenting information in optimal media based on content types and user goals.
Assess documentation sets for adherence to the content model and make recommendations to bring the content into alignment.
Perform developmental and substantive editing of online content, including but not limited to rewriting and reorganizing topics to help writers visualize and follow recommended restructuring. Suggest alternative ways to present material, when required. 
Analyze content to ensure completeness of information while adhering to minimalism principles. Recommend where to expand conceptual information to provide the context and background needed to ensure user comprehension and success with tasks, and where to eliminate excessive and unnecessary information. 
Review documentation for effective use of technical communication principles and techniques such as user goal and task orientation, navigational aids, content types, and content structure. 
Assist with user testing of information. Make recommendations regarding usability of documentation.

Style guidelines

Improve and develop templates and other content structure elements as content delivery tools evolve.
Support efforts to update and distribute style guidelines and standards in collaboration with other information architects and editors.
Work with IDD, Product Management, Education, Marketing, and User Experience teams to review terminology and update terminology guidelines for UI text. 
Ensure that IDD standards are current in the Design Pattern Library. 


Assist editors, when needed, to perform substantive or copy editing of technical, online content.
Collaborate with writers in global locations to ensure that IDD standards are followed and consistency is maintained across documentation sets, teams, and locations.


Initiate and recommend creative ways to develop and maintain technical information more effectively within departmental standards and guidelines.
Collaborate with IDD leaders in investigating and recommending tools and methods for improving documentation quality.

Mentoring and training

Provide training and guidance to writers on audience and topic analyses.
Establish a program to develop information-architecture skills within the org.
Coach, mentor, and train writers and editors to develop and enhance their writing and editing skills. Assist in orienting new hires to processes, procedures, and tools.


5 to 10 years of information architecture experience on multiple projects. Must have experience incorporating rich media into the content model and experience with DITA (Darwin Information Typing Architecture). Must have excellent understanding of information architecture principles and extensive experience applying information architecture methodologies.
Minimum 7 to 10 years of prior or combined experience in technical writing.
Minimum 5 years of experience designing and developing content for in-app help systems.
Proficiency developing user engagements in Gainsight PX is highly desired.
Prefer recent experience with wiki documentation and rich media such as videos, tutorials, and interactive graphics.
Experience building taxonomies, terminology databases, and thesauri.
Must have several years of relevant work experience with application software and experience developing content written for industry-specific and internet-based technologies, web and application servers, or client-server applications and technologies.
Experience with document and software development life cycles, and software development methodologies.
Excellent organizational and project management skills with proven ability to manage competing priorities and remain productive in fast-paced environment.
