BMC Software is seeking a modern, customer-focused technical people leader to serve as Director, Database Administrator Team for the Digital Service and Operations Management (DSOM) team.

In this role as director, you will lead a geographically distributed team of DBAs who provide Database Services for both on premise and Helix SaaS offerings in our portfolio. You will work some great teams including core R&D, SaaS Ops and Support in delivering highly available, performant and secure Database services.

Day to day responsibilities
  • Guide and lead the DBA team to plan, deliver and operate various Database infrastructure resources that the rest of the organization uses.
  • Drive consensus, sponsorship, and alignment for future plans among key stakeholders.
  • Promote a culture of autonomy, transparency, and teamwork, while remaining customer focused.
  • Guide and mentor team members positioning them for growth and advancement.
  • Define and develop infrastructure automations using Agile methodologies.
  • Establish close working relationships with direct reports, colleagues, customers, and partners.
  • Analyze complex database systems and identify novel, innovative approaches to solving difficult problems.
  • Support business and financial analysis to aid in decision making and provide insights that inform business strategies.

  • 12+ years of experience in leading and managing Database solutions or services at a global enterprise.
  • Experience in effectively leading, mentoring, and growing world class DBA teams across distributed locations.
  • Experience with Database systems in SaaS environments serving multiple end-customers, including reliability, availability, scalability, performance, security, and serviceability.
  • Experience in managing incidents, on-call / shift rotation schedules, scheduled maintenance / deployment activities, Backup & Restore and Disaster Recovery (DR) policies and implementation.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL
  • Experience with public cloud providers like AWS, GCP and their technologies like RDS, S3, etc.
  • Ability to attract, motivate and retain great DBA talent.
  • Results-driven with strategic mindset and creative thinking.
  • Ability to persuade people with passion and influence.
  • Proficiency in time management, including prioritizing the completion of projects and tasks promptly, precisely, and within budget.
  • Willingness to “go the extra mile” to achieve important goals.
  • Ability to maintain calmness and composure in the face of intense workloads and time pressures.

Nice to Have:
  • BS/BA degree in a related field (preferably Computer Science).
  • Experience with Oracle / Exadata / SQLServer
  • Experience with AuroraDB.

The annual base salary range represents the low and high end of the BMC salary range for this position. Actual salaries depend on a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training, licensure, and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. 

The range listed is just one component of BMC's employee compensation package. Other rewards may include a variable plan and country specific benefits.

At BMC, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at /near the top of the range. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $163,050 - $271,750
