Description and Requirements

The Director - Product Development plays a key role in defining and driving the development vision for a solution and is responsible for ensuring department resources are aligned with those goals. This role also serves as an advisor and mentor to the operational management team and works on issues where analysis of situations requires an in-depth knowledge of organizational objectives and strategies. 

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Manage the activities of two or more sections/departments through subordinate managers; exercise full supervision in terms of budgeting, resource allocation, staffing, continuous improvement, etc.
  • Cultivates good working relationships within and among team members.
  • Continuously evaluates overall performance to ensure efficient and effective department functionality.
  • Effectively communicate knowledge of company's visions, organizational, philosophy, values and code of ethics.
  • Contribute to short-term (1-2 years) and strategic (3-5 years) planning to support the overall business plan.
  • Ability to impact decisions within and outside product development group.
  • Functions as the central point of contact for product management, sales/marketing and quality assurance.
  • Works with prospective and current customers on complex product issues, business development opportunities.
  • Provides leadership and planning to ensure products follow BMC strategic direction.
  • Knowledge of industry trends, major issues, considerations and trendsetters.


  • Experience with multiple platforms, mainframe, web server/application servers, databases, web technologies, and/or object-oriented programming language. 
  • Strong leadership abilities and extensive experience managing the activities of a development team.
  • Understanding and good working knowledge of software development process with an ability to direct the use of resources to meet department goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with senior leadership. 
  • Experience leading cross-functional, multi-site teams. 
  • Experience working in fast paced, dynamic environment. 
  • Experience working with agile development teams


  • Minimum of 12 years product development experience with a bachelor’s degree or 8 years with a masters’
  • Minimum 4 years managing development teams
