Position Description

The Analytics team is critical part of the BMC Operations foundation enabling BMC to become a “Best in Class” actionable data-driven organization, and to drive key strategic imperatives around Innovation, Customer Centricity, Operational Excellence and our people.

4 key Analytics Pillars define the team’s critical functions and outcomes:

(1)   Centralized Analytics Database & Data Science Engine

(2)   Dynamic Reporting Automation Platform in Tableau, Salesforce.com and other applications

(3)   Delivery of Key Performance reporting & insights across broad BMC functions including Sales, Marketing, Customer Success, Customer Value Realization and Product Management. 

(4)   Advanced Analytics for intelligent targeting, prioritization and measurement of BMC’s core business functions.

We are growing this team and need a strong leader to work with our Analytics rock stars who are all self-starters, eager to learn, contribute and drive innovation and have passion for action-oriented problem solving.

This Leadership role is highly visible and responsible for the development and execution of BMC Ops’ global analytics and reporting strategy with strong emphasis on Sales & Marketing and all Orgs supporting the entire Customer Journey. The candidate will be responsible for executing on the strategy by leveraging his/her team to identify opportunities, provide insight and improve organizational effectiveness through actionable intelligence.  The position offers a challenging environment for the right candidate to add business value using their experience and knowledge in a creative manner, while also providing a unique opportunity to influence management and impact business performance in a significant way. All while building key business relationships to drive better decisions and overall org effectiveness as member of the BMC Ops leadership team. 

This includes the development of executive level dashboards, reporting models & analytics necessary to glean key insights and inform changes in strategy and/or tactics in support of planning and the day-to-day execution of BMC. Ideally, we are seeking an individual who has successfully built and led a significant Analytics program/function for a similar sized Fortune 500 high tech company.

Scope of Responsibilities

  • Focus on Actionable Intelligence and outcomes
  • Rationalize our Analytics process and outputs – Fewer ‘Dashboards’ – More ‘Value’ supporting key functions and processes
  • Partner with key stakeholders and manage team to provide compelling analyses, clear reporting, and insightful recommendations across B2B Lead & Pipeline Funnel through the entire customer journey.
  • Develop strategy to leverage predictive and descriptive statistical models to improve insights, enhance data-driven business strategies, and improve pipeline growth
  • Maintain and support ongoing evolution of KPIs for key business functions across BMC.
  • Conceptualize and build multi-touch Attribution Model to identify key drivers at various key stages of the sales cycle
  • Manage development and delivery of key business dashboards and visualizations
  • Work with technical teams and IT to define and build and analytics infrastructure and reporting platform that is robust and scalable to meet current and future needs, with appropriate Governance Framework
  • Ability to attract, retain, develop and grow your team

Skills and Experience

  • Necessary

o    Strong business acumen, coupled with creative thinking and exceptional analytical skills

o    Experience successfully leading a team of analytics professionals within a sales & marketing role or context

o    Understands how to effectively bridge the gaps and build connective tissue between other Ops and Business functions when capturing and analyzing data from different perspectives

o   10+  years in sales & marketing with 5+ years hands on analytics experience with proven quantitative orientation.

o    Sales, Marketing & B2B/B2C Data Science background.

o    Detailed understanding of digital & demand marketing and inside sales lead management and the entire sales funnel.

o    Ability to deal with ambiguity and create action plans in solving unstructured problems.

o    Ability to thrive in a matrix environment and influence adoption of new thinking and drive change.

o    Story-telling and ability to communicate complex quantitative analysis in a clear, precise, and actionable manner.

o    Excellent written and verbal communicator – able to interface with, present to and rationalize with individuals at all levels of the organization

o    Strong critical thinking and strategic approach complemented with a bias for action. You will need to be able to develop a strategy and execution plan that makes things happen

o    Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while managing to critical deadlines and deliverables

    • Understanding of how to leverage and integrate data across multiple sources to create compelling analyses
    • Comfort in manipulating large volumes of data, creating new and improved techniques and/or solutions for data collection, management, and usage.

  • Preferred
    • Experience working with Salesforce.com and Eloqua
    • Snowflake and other cloud data technologies
    • Experience working with data visualization tools, specifically Tableau
    • Experience programming in SQL, R
    • Knowledge of statistical and data mining techniques – such as linear/logistical regression, predictive modeling, cluster analysis, and CHAID
    • Advanced MS Office: Excel, PPT
    • Software industry expertise

Education/Training

  • 10+ years experience in Strategic Data Analysis and Data Science
  • Knowledge of B2B/B2C Database Marketing, preferably in High Tech/Software industry
  • Advanced degree in a Quantitative Field (Data Science, Statistics, Econometrics, Management Sciences, Marketing Research, Mathematics, Engineering, etc.) – Masters degree preferred
