The IZOT mainframe console operation team provides support to IBM zSeries mainframe hardware and software to ensure all mainframe L-pars and its subsystems are always up and active.

BMC is looking for a mainframe computer operator to join our amazing IZOT team.

In this role, you will be responsible for environment monitoring and support critical IBM zSeries mainframe hardware and software. You will also be responsible to maintain the productivity of these systems and minimize disruptions to services. Providing 24X7 on call support for mainframe hardware device and software.

Here is how, through this exciting role, YOU will contribute to BMC's and your own success:

  • Follow BMC procedures and documentation required for error-free execution of data center functions.
  • Initialize systems, perform IPL (Initial Program Load) of z/OS and z/VM systems.
  • Ensure all logs, check-off lists are completed and accurate to provide detailed information for continued operations and problem follow-up.
  • Notify appropriate personnel for unsuccessful completion of jobs or tasks, based on error messages and/or documentation.
  • Perform tape management functions according to procedure.
  • Able to recognize and resolve critical operational problems.
  • Report and document any observed deviations from standard performance to the Lead Operator on duty, or technical support staff immediately to ensure effective resolution.
  • Functions as a Level 1 technical support for mainframe users.
  • Provide after-hours technical support by documenting and escalating calls appropriately.
  • Able to remain calm, cordial, and effective during the resolution of time-critical system interruptions/difficulties/failures.
  • Provide good teamwork by expressing a collaborative attitude and sharing technical know-how.

To ensure you’re set up for success, you will bring the following skillset & experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in mainframe console operation.
  • Proficient in performing Zos & VM system IPL, system Health Check & Job monitoring.
  • Experience in Incident management.
  • Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of industry practices and company policies and procedures.
  • Capabilities to resolves a wide range of issues in imaginative as well as practical ways.
  • This position requires 24X7 on call support to mainframe system. Available to work a rotating shift which may include weekends and could also include rotating day and night shift.
  • Exposure of RACF provisioning is good to have.
