Description and Requirements
The Royalty Staff Accountant will be primarily responsible for performing activities around the third-party royalty process and the accounting associated with those royalties for BMC Software. This position will be responsible for the following areas (not all-inclusive):
1. Reviews third party contracts to determine appropriate application of accounting rules to the contract terms and documents such accounting treatment.
2. Interacts with Legal, Business Development team, and Product Managers to understand product changes, third party software usage and royalty impacts.
3. Primary party responsible for reconciling month-end general ledger account balances to various sub-ledgers and resolves any variances.
4. Analyzes customer invoice data and performs calculations and reconciliations of monthly royalty accruals and prepares the associated journal entries.
5. Prepares monthly royalty partner statements and processes associated payment invoices.
6. Analyzes quarterly royalty balance sheet and income statement accounts and prepares variance analysis data for management.
7. Interacts with Financial Analysts to provide needed information for budgeting and forecasting.
8. Resolves royalty related issues and inquiries in a timely manner.
9. Will participate in the monthly and quarterly close processes, SOX requirements and audit reviews.
10. Tests and coordinates changes and upgrades to the various databases and systems with IS&T and assists in determining new methods to automate and improve processes.
11. Other tactical and strategic accounting related initiatives as assigned.
12. Ensuring complete compliance with internal control requirements, improving controls where necessary, evaluating processes for continuous improvements, and influencing change where needed.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree required in Finance or Accounting with at least 3+ years of work experience in an Accounting related role. CPA or MBA preferred.
· Advanced Excel skills required.
· Must possess a strong knowledge of financial principles and accounting/budgeting practice
· Must be able to demonstrate strong communication skills, both verbal and written, as the position requires regular communication with both internal and external partners. Must also possess a strong commitment to customer service excellence.
· Familiarity with Oracle, OneStream, Micro Strategy a plus.
· Must be able to work flexibly within a fast-paced environment, under pressure and within strict deadlines.
