Opportunity
We have an exciting position open for a Legal Counsel in our Northern Europe Legal Team. This role would suite an applicant who has legal experience in the UK, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark or Ireland. This role also provides the opportunity for the right applicant to take the lead as BMC’s lead legal counsel for the Nordic region.
Your main responsibility will be to provide legal support to members of BMC’s sales organisation in the Nordics, UK, Ireland. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wishes to gain international experience within the technology sector.
You will also liaise closely with peers in other EMEA regions and in the US. The position requires excellent interpersonal, communications and drafting skills combined with a broad business knowledge and enthusiasm for working in a diverse, global and fast paced environment.
Description
The role holder will be an integral member of the legal department, reporting to the Head of Legal for Northern Europe. Key responsibilities will include:
- Negotiate and draft all types of technology contracts e.g. SaaS, data processing agreements, software licensing and support, professional services agreements.
- Collaborate and work with other members of the EMEA Legal team.
- Work closely with BMC’s Best Practice and Revenue Recognition teams.
- Support the corporate compliance programs, including educating regional employees.
- Liaise with outside counsel on region-specific engagements and assist on litigation engagements and dispute resolution.
- Communicate with regional sales managers and customers as appropriate to ensure compliance and involvement in legal issues and processes and to have a good understanding of the business, customer requirements and company strategies.
- Undertake ad-hoc projects as directed by the Head of Legal Northern and Eastern Europe and EMEA General Counsel (e.g. modern slavery statements, ESG and contract management systems).
Skills & Experience
- Qualifications: Qualified lawyer in Sweden, Denmark, Finland, UK, Ireland, Norway or Common Law Jurisdiction with a minimum of 3 years post qualified experience although to candidates with less PQE with the right experience are encouraged to apply.
- Experience drafting and negotiating technology and commercial contracts.
- Ability to identify legal issues and provide solutions.
- An interest in developments in technology law, such as privacy, data security, AI, machine learning, digitisation and cloud computing.
- Excellent written and verbal presentation skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Enthusiastic, driven, engaging and personable.
- Business travel from time to time.
